These are two long instruments for neutron and X-ray scattering. At the top is the new 40m long detector tank of the small angle neutron scattering (SANS) instrument D11, at the Institut Laue–Langevin. It is yellow and blue and stretches the whole length of the building. At the bottom is the inside view of the 34 m detector tube at ID02 at the ESRF. The detector can be seen at the back and is used to measure scattered X-rays. It travels along the tube during measurements.
